Five Top HR Tech Trends to Watch
This is not yet another piece on how tech has changed the way we work, live, and play. We figure that subject has been covered enough for all time, especially the last two years.
Instead, this is an article on the top five emerging HR tech trends—and how they are shaping our field.
Why all this change? You already know it has to do with a whole set of complex factors, from digital transformation and accelerated change to five generations in the workforce at the same time, for the first time ever. The short answer to this complex question is the convergence of new tools + rapidly evolving tech + significant change in the workplace + cultural and societal changes are reshaping how we do business, often for the better.
Whether you are a seasoned leader or new to the field of HR, here is what to watch and why.
Cloud-based HR tools
For many companies, a new era is beginning, one in which HR does not have to rely on multiple tools for hiring, onboarding, performance management, and payroll activities. Cloud-based HR tools are introducing automation and creating efficiency through HR technology. In addition, they give teams access to data anytime. And adoption is on the rise: research by Information Services Group in early 2022 found that 46% of companies surveyed are using HR-as-a-service tools, helping to reduce human error and overhead costs while streamlining traditional HR workflows.
Data security
Simply put, it is more important than ever to protect sensitive and personal data given the increasing reliance on and use of cloud technologies and a hybrid or remote workforce. As a result, because policies and procedures are such a critical focus for HR, HR professionals are increasingly responsible for defining, adopting, and training employees on new procedures to ensure ongoing security and compliance.
People analytics
Is your organization using people analytics tools? If not, it is time to investigate them. These tools use data science and artificial intelligence to collect data and provide insights that can bridge the gap between company, team, and individual goals that, when missed, can lead to increased dissatisfaction and turnover. People analytics tools can help with skills identification and development, insights into the effectiveness of managers, teams, and leaders, and much more.
Employee wellness and mental health
Employee well-being and mental health have stepped into the spotlight over the last two years. And it’s a good thing, as employee mental health affects everything from productivity to turnover in a business. As companies expand or enhance benefits and support for well-being, HR leaders are looking to digital tools like online mental health platforms and resources, as well as to tech trends like gamification to encourage participation in company wellness initiatives.
Employer branding and tools
Just as consumer brand perception can make or break a company’s profitability, employer brand perception affects the quality of talent you attract—and whether these people want to work for you. It is why the field of employer branding has grown so rapidly in recent years. What is the intersection with HR tech? Increasingly, employees are being encouraged to become brand advocates, and the lines are blurring on social media between employee and company content and channels. In addition, HR software is being integrated with social media as well as aspects of employer branding.
